🔗 Share this article Admittedly, it's Full of Gibberish, Extreme Hosting and Psychobabble. However, I Honestly Cherish Meghan's Festive Episode. No considering the time of year, it's constantly fair game for scrutiny on the Duchess of Sussex's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Commentators, expert and amateur alike, have seldom found such common ground as when enthusiastically shredding the lifestyle show's first and second seasons to pieces. The general consensus held that a more egregious regal scandal had never been witnessed than the notorious snack re-labeling incident. Currently, as a festive rebel, she has returned for another round with a "Holiday Celebration" (or a Christmas special). However on this occasion, it's different. The familiar ingredients audiences anticipate – psychobabble word salads, intense hospitality – are still present, but set of a Christmas special, the purpose becomes clear. The pieces have fallen into place; it's a ideal seasonal storm. By this point, Meghan is like the quirky relative at most festive family gatherings – offering random tips, and contributing the occasional strange exclamation. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's an interesting figure, but her presence is familiar and unexpectedly soothing. And she seems content; she's causing any harm. She is aware her all subtle gestures, word and glance will be dissected and scrutinized, but still appears carefree and serenely untroubled. It could be this is the only time in history where that clichéd phrase – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – could actually be true. Because, you know what?, each element in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is delightful. Granted, it's all painfully excessive, silliness and flamboyant – but is that not precisely what Christmas is about? And the advice she gives might be ridiculous, but the walk she's walking genuinely looks impeccably styled. Whatever she sets her mind to, she pulls off with panache. Her recipes looks tasty, the holiday arrangement she creates is gorgeous, her presents are practically too exquisite to open. Nothing is average or ugly – including the way she fastens her kitchen garment is stylish and elegant. She doesn't throw a dish in the oven, it "takes a twirl", and she creases gift paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be genuinely relishing herself throughout. How could any cynical observer not be won over, bursting with festive joy and left with a powerful yearning for crafted festive snaps or a crudites platter where greens is arranged in the likeness of a wreath? Meghan used to pretend for a living, of course, but despite that, after the intensity of scrutiny she has endured ever since she met Prince Harry, the love child of acting royalty would find it hard to appear this naturally. Her decision to alter or even moderate her routine, regardless of it being so constantly, internationally ridiculed, is weirdly comforting. In our unpredictable world, here is one thing we can depend on: Meghan will remain herself, whatever happens. We will forever know where we are with her. If you're not yet convinced by what she's selling, a reminder that will undoubtedly come as a relief: you aren't required to. We don't have the draft in this country, and should it be reinstated, it would be doubtful to include viewing With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you decide to tune in and are consumed by longing about her flawless Christmas, there is hope either. Whether you're a royal or a data administrator, hardly any child fully understands the time and energy their mother puts in in December. So you can console yourself by imagining Archie and Lilibet's faces when they unfold a beautifully scripted letter that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a DIY festive calendar, in place of a sweet treat.
