Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was ā€œpositiveā€ during their latest talk.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,ā€ Glenn said Wednesday. ā€œHis wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.ā€

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

ā€œDon’t know just yet,ā€ he added. ā€œYet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.ā€

NYPD released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking ā€œa great dealā€ since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

ā€œThe first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œI thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œThere’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.ā€

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

ā€œHe remains involved with our activities,ā€ Glenn said. ā€œIn fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.ā€

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
