Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who were killed in the recent violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared sympathies on social media, stating: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our city”.

The shooter began shooting inside a classroom in the building on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Law enforcement that searched the lodging seized two firearms and magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was discharged from care, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his promising future.”
